I had a fantastic new years eve this year at a small party and dinner with friends that was very 'koselig.' Koselig is similar to the Dutch gezellig but not exactly the same. When it came time for the new year to happen we went out to the top of Stensparken to see the fireworks. It was quite foggy out but that just added to the atmosphere and we were just about high enough that the fog didn't obscure most of the fireworks.
When the clock struck 12 and 2017 came around, the festivities and fireworks broke loose! Bubbles in our bellies and hugs for everyone: I do always love happy moments. I hadn't planned to shoot much but of course I had my camera with me so I could catch the unexpected. In this case the unexpected was that the firework smoke mixed with the already foggy air and the fog got thicker and thicker! As a photographer I was as happy as a hipster paying too much for coffee and pulled out my camera to shoot . The smoke clung to the air and thick clouds of it started drifting by.
I wanted to share some of the pictures of my friends that I took with the fog and the street lights backlighting them. There were three or four streetlights in the area and they were all a completely different color which gives the pictures very different moods depending on which orientation we had.
How did you celebrate your New Year's Eve? Did you go dancing or to a party? Were you in Oslo and were you able to see the fog? Would you recommend someone else to do that next year? I enjoyed this so much that it has definitely inspired me keep my eyes open for these kinds of conditions in the future, and I can highly recommend foggy new year's celebrations!
