2016 was a fantastic year for me. It was a year of firsts and a year where I went over to the deep end of the pool. You know the end where you can't feel the bottom anymore and clearly realize that you have to learn to swim or it's back to the kiddies section....

The galleries on my site feel a bit random to me so I have started transitioning them into something a bit more directed. I have added a portrait gallery where I want to showcase my best work. I want to continue to transition my site to a collection of only my best work.
My goal is to eventually have a gallery for vertical portraits, horizontal portraits, dance events, other events, landscapes, travel photography, and fun projects. Each of these galleries will contain 8 to maximum 12 photos. This will hopefully transition my site into something more focused and cohesive.
Let me know if you think I missed a category of my photography that you like or that you think I should get into in the comments below.

ALF 2016 - part 2 - Photos
Hello again readers,
It's finally time to share my photographs of ALF with you! I have highlighted some of my favorites here and at the bottom you can find the rest of the photos. I was present for the classes and the Friday and Saturday parties. Unfortunately I had to fly back on Sunday afternoon so I missed the last party down in Nyhavna.
The parties were at the same venue Friday and Saturday. Frimurerlogen is an old historical building and that's quite apparent! The name can be translated to "Freemason's lodge" The interior is amazing with a grand entrance, staircase and majestic old school ballroom. The layout of the ballroom seems to be designed for dancing to a band with space for tables under the 2nd level balcony seating. The middle space in front of the band is just perfect for casual dancing. It is honestly one of the most beautiful halls I've danced in.
This weekend my friend Francesca and I had the honor of teaching a blues dance taster for the participants of ALF. We taught a class designed to get the class dancing and enjoying themselves as fast as possible. We only had an hour so we couldn't get into too much technical detail. I also want to thank all of you who came to the class and gave us your energy and enthusiasm! We really enjoyed it.
I liked the fact that there was more to do than just lindy hop. Besides the blues dance class we taught there were a few solo jazz classes by Audun, Charlotte and Ron; a tap dance class by Sharon; a DJ workshop by Petter (from Oslo) and a body awareness workshop by Maartje.
You can read about each of the taster classes under "Teachers and DJs" on the ALF site:

ALF 2016 - part 1 - videos
This past weekend I was at ALF in Trondheim, or T-town as I like to call it. ALF (Another Lindy hop Festival) is a medium sized lindy hop workshop weekend in the middle of Norway. T-town is known for its weather. All of it. At the same time. I'm not kidding. I am proudly told by locals that the saying to go by is: "If you don't like the weather in Trondheim, wait ten minutes."
I have been to T-town before and have been quite lucky with the weather. This time the stereotype held true. We had cloudy weather, clear weather, sunshine, rain, hail, wind, and calm. That was just the first day. In the end the weather didn't put a damper on our spirits because the festival was great.
The T-town dancers are a friendly lot who are dedicated to creating an easygoing atmosphere and bringing a high level of quality to the event. ALF included a band at each of the Friday and Saturday evening parties, some great DJs, a Jack & Jill competition, and performances from their show group as well as the teachers. Yes I was one of the DJs and I'm not afraid to say that I love the music that I play for dancers. :P
The local show group performed to 'Twenty Four Robbers' and I really liked the concept of the choreography. It featured Nicolay trying to get some rest (probably much needed as he was one of the main organizers for ALF) and being distracted by twenty four robbers. No I did not count them but there were enough of them that I'm going to believe it was twenty four :P
The teachers this weekend were Audun & Charlotte from Norway, Gosia & Kuno from Copenhagen, and Ron & Sharon from Israel. I felt the choice of teachers worked well for this event as they really cared and tried to connect to the event and the participants. This sounds like it should be a given but unfortunately this is not always the case. When it does happen though I really think everyone appreciates it and the event is much better. It always helps when they can show off some amazing dancing in their performance!
As the title implies this is only part one of my ALF coverage. I also took photos and will post them soon. In the meantime you can watch all 6 of the videos I took on my YouTube channel, check the ALF site, and check out the teacher's websites. Leave a comment below if you also want me to write about my DJing experience at ALF with song choice, playlist, thoughts I had during the evening and some info on the other DJs.

Logos and friends
Hello everyone!
Welcome to my new webpage :) I'm super happy to share it with you and to share my new logo with you! You may have noticed that my most recent photos have been coming out with a new logo!
So where does the concept come from? In my native language of Dutch the phrase 'met de baard,' translated to 'with the beard' sounds quite a lot like my last name Mac an Bhaird. Naturally this became apparent when I started wearing a beard at school etc. A few different groups of friends came up with this independantly so it stuck. When I moved to Oslo in 2013 I took my beard with me and I started organizing a blues dance festival. The ever majestic moose epitomizes Norway for me so it naturally became our symbol. Moose Blues was born. Check out MooseBlues.no!
My co-organizers were two very lovely and talented women which meant that there was only one beard between the three of us. This quickly cemented me as being The BeardMoose and it has stuck ever since.
Now a great concept is great but that's about as far as it will get you. You can develop that idea yourself or if your artistic talents lie elsewhere then it's best to enlist a little help from your friends. In this case I turned to one of my Moose friends: Francesca. She has done a great job on other logos we worked on in the past so it was a natural choice. Suffice to say she did a great job and you can see the results here on my site and as a watermark in all of my photos!
Here is a photo that I took of Francesca back in the fall of 2014.
As this is my first blog post please let me know in the comments what you would most like to hear about! I will be posting about all the events I went to with my pictures and videos but what else would you like to read about? Would you like to know how I took specific pictures? Would you like to know what gear I shoot with? Would you like to know about my travels? Would you like to have some features on my friends?
Takk for nå!
